Mushroom, sausages and mashed potatoes

This felt more like an assembly job than actual cooking and it was very very tasty.

Onion - 1 (sliced thin)
Mushrooms - 200 gms (quartered)
Sausages - 400 gms (sliced across into bite sized pieces)
Green capsicum - 1 medium (sliced thin)
Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
Oyster sauce - 1/2 tsp
oregano -dried - 1/4 tsp
Potato mash flakes - 1 cup
Eggs - 2
Grated cheese - 1/2 cup
Salt to taste
Crushed pepper

Saute the onions, then mushrooms, sausages and the green pepper .Add the oyster sauce and the chilli powder. Salt to taste.

Now lightly sprinkle the potato flakes with a bit of water, keep aside. dont let them become very soggy, just to make them lightly moist.

Beat the eggs, add a pinch of salt, the grated cheese, oregano and crushed pepper.

In a greased baking dish, add the sautéed onion, mushrooms, sausages etc first. Now add the mashed potato flakes on top. The eggs and cheese go on top.

Bake at 180 C for 15 minutes till the egg is cooked and cheese is melted..or you may extend the time five more minutes to get the crust a bit brown.

Serve with pita, lebanese or crusty bread.

  1. Will have to try this out. My two little pests love both sausages as well as mashed potatoes. Never crossed my mind the two could be combined. Only one doubt though - can we substitute any other sauce instead of oyster sauce?

  2. yes... try about 1/2 tsp of soy plus half tsp ketchup / tomato sauce . Kids may like it better. You may add any sauce you like .Mushrooms and Oyster sauce make a great combination. So i used that.

  3. Isn't there a British dish with Mashed potatoes and sausages with a weird ring to its name.

I love sausages and my bro loves potatoes.... and the combination with some buttered bread is heavenly..

  4. Bangers N Mash it's called, I saw it made on Cooking isn't rocket science, cookery show on NDTV Good Times and the recipe is here:

B/w we get a nice dish minus the baking also

  5. Thanks for clearing that up, Swapna. I am yet to see Oyster sauce in any of the stores here, in Calicut :D. Hence the doubt.

  6. Sounds like a great combo..Kids will love it :-)

  7. This looks absolutely delicious and has some of my all time favorite ingredients. Thank you for sharing, let me go wipe off the drool on my face!! :-)
